Pending an interview with an advisory committee, West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck is expected to be named athletic director at Texas by the end of November, sources told Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com.

Luck, father of former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, would replace longtime Longhorns AD DeLoss Dodds, who announced his impending retirement earlier this month after 32 years. The announcement of Luck's appointment could come as early as Nov. 16, Brown reports.

Texas President Bill Powers would make the announcement. Powers is the former dean of the UT Law school, where Luck earned his law degree. Luck is a former quarterback for the Houston Oilers and spent time as the president and general manager of the Houston Dynamo of MLS.

Brown reports that Luck is the favorite among candidates that include Arizona State athletic director Steve Patterson, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione and Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick.

On Oct. 16 Luck was announced as one of 13 members of the College Football Playoff selection committee. On a teleconference with reporters that day, Luck declined to comment when asked about the Texas athletic director position.

Luck controversially hired Dana Holgorsen as coach-in-waiting at West Virginia after the 2010 campaign without the consent of then-coach Bill Stewart. Luck fired Stewart before the 2011 season largely because of the coach's opposition to Holgorsen's appointment. At Texas, Luck would inherit a football program in flux as longtime coach Mack Brown remains on the hot seat with the Longhorns. Still, Luck would also take over an athletic department that Dodds helped build into the biggest in the country, one that runs on a $163 million budget.
