Art Briles just got himself paid. Briles, who has led the Bears to an 8-0 record and a No. 5 ranking in the BCS, has been at the school 2008 and has a career 41-30 record at Baylor. There have been rumors all year that Texas might be targeting Briles (even if he has no interest in accepting the position) should the job open up in Austin. The new extension should put those rumors to rest.

Under Briles, Baylor has seen a Heisman Trophy winner in Robert Griffin III, three straight bowl appearances and is currently building a new 45,000 capacity on-campus stadium opening in 2014. It's safe to say the school would like to keep him around, and an extension into a year sci-fi writers were imagining just a few decades ago is a pretty good start.

Baylor plays Texas Tech (7-3, 4-3) on Saturday.
