Bad news for Utah as Utes' starting quarterback Travis Wilson will miss the rest of the season -- and possibly his career -- due to a condition revealed during concussion testing, coach Kyle Whittingham announced on Monday.

Wilson suffered a concussion during the first quarter of Utah's game against Arizona State on Nov. 6. Neurological testing surrounding the concussion revealed a "pre-existing condition," the school confirmed in a release to the Salt Lake Tribune’s Lya Wodraska.

Whittingham did not provide details but said the situation could be career-ending for Wilson, even though that has yet to be confirmed.

"Travis is done for the season," he said. "He’s out. He’s been declared not able to play and it could be career-ending. We’ll find out."

"I’m not a doctor and I wouldn’t want to screw it up," he said. "It’s a head trauma, pre-existing. And I’m not even sure it’s trauma; it could be genetic.

"We’re very upset by this and disappointed to say the least."

Wilson, a sophomore, completed 133-of-237 passes for 1,827 yards, 16 touchdowns and 16 interceptions this year. He started the last 16 games of his Utah career in place of former starter Jordan Wynn, who retired his college football career last season due to shoulder injuries.

Adam Schulz will start for the Utes in their final two games against Washington State and Colorado. The former walk-on has appeared six times in his career, including a start against Oregon this past weekend where he completed 13-of-30 passes for 181 yards, one touchdown and one pick.
