We're almost there. Can you feel it? Can you sense it? We're so close to knowing who will be the next Texas coach (if the Internet had its say). Last week, SI.com unveiled a 32-coach, winner-take-all bracket featuring candidates who have been linked -- at one point, in some way or another -- to the open Texas job. The idea was simple: Instead of having an eight-person committee conduct the Longhorns’ search to replace Mack Brown, the entire Internet would help decide. This is America. Land of the free. Home of the brave who love voting in polls.
Fourth-round voting begins now and will end on Thursday, Dec. 26 at noon ET. The complete results from the third round are listed beneath the latest poll matchups. Second-round results can be found here. First-round results are here.
Which of the remaining four coaches is the people’s choice (and the entirely hypothetical Texas headman of the future)? Vote below.
(*Note: This bracket has absolutely no input on Texas’ actual hiring decision. Well, at least none of which we’re aware.)
• No. 3 Jimbo Fisher (59.3%) over No. 5 James Franklin (40.7%)
• No. 2 Art Briles (62.9%) over No. 1 Charlie Strong (37.1%)
• No. 2 Jim Harbaugh (52.8%) over No. 1 Jon Gruden (47.2%)
• No. 1 David Shaw
(50.3%) over No. 3 Mike Gundy (49.7%)
