USC quarterback Max Wittek, who backed up Cody Kessler for much of the 2013 season, will forgo spring practice, graduate in the spring and transfer to another program, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Wittek will have two seasons of eligibility remaining as a graduate student.

According to the report, Wittek said he is looking for the right feel with another school.

"I had talked to Coach [Steve Sarkisian] a couple of times,” Wittek said. “What it really came down to was a feel for me ... Getting my degree from such a great university will mean a lot, and ultimately, allowing me to play right away with two years to play was the best way to go.”

Wittek split reps with Kessler for the first two games of the 2013 season before former coach Lane Kiffin tabbed Kessler as the full-time starter. Wittek completed 50-of-95 passes for 600 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions in his Trojan career.

The departure of Wittek leaves USC with Kessler, redshirt freshman Max Browne and freshman Jalen Greene as its three scholarship passers. Barring a push from Browne in spring practice, it seems likely Sarkisian will open the 2014 season with Kessler as his starter.
