Four Georgia football players were arrested on Monday night and charged with "theft by deception," according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Wide receiver Uriah LeMay, safety Tray Matthews and defensive linemen Jonathan Taylor and James DeLoach were all charged with varying misdemeanor counts of theft by deception. The charges stemmed from the players allegedly depositing stipend checks on mobile-phone banking apps before cashing the same checks at a convenience store afterward.

DeLoach, Matthews and Taylor allegedly cashed their own checks twice, while LeMay used a roommate's deposited check a second time. LeMay was charged with four counts of theft by deception, while Matthews was charged with three counts. DeLoach and Taylor were each charged with two counts.

The university police said the players' actions were picked up by the UGA Athletic Association through its regular accounting process. All four players were released from jail on bond by 11 p.m. on Monday.

In a statement to the paper, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said, "I'm aware of the situation and it will be handled in an appropriate way." As of Tuesday morning, the team had not announced any disciplinary action.
