Louisiana-Lafayette will approve a new six-year contract for coach Mark Hudspeth, sources told CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler. According to Fowler, the new deal could be finalized as early as next week.

Hudspeth has gone 27-12 in three seasons with the Ragin' Cajuns, posting a 9-4 record every year from 2011-13. The coach has also won the New Orleans Bowl in all three campaigns, the only three bowl victories in program history. Louisiana-Lafayette went 3-9 under Rickey Bustle in '10, the year before Hudspeth's arrival.

Hudspeth's name came up in connection to a couple of job openings this offseason, including at Vanderbilt before the Commodores ultimately hired Derek Mason.
