Missouri WR Dorial Green-Beckham suspended for violation of team policies
Missouri announced on Monday that Tigers wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules. The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder made 59 catches for 883 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, including six grabs for 144 yards and two scores in a 59-42 loss to Auburn in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 7.
Green-Beckham was the top-rated overall recruit in the country coming out of Hillcrest (Mo.) High in 2012. He is set to enter his junior season this fall.
“It’s unfortunate, but it’s the right thing to do for our football program, for the athletic department, and also for Dorial,” Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel said in the team's official statement. “We have high standards related to the expectations that come along with being a Missouri Tiger, and Dorial has not met those recently. Representing Mizzou and our fans is a privilege, and we’ll work with him during this process. It’s been disappointing to have this, and other issues which have taken place lately. It’s frustrating, because we work very hard to instill responsibility and discipline in our young men so that our program represents Mizzou the right way. These actions aren’t representative of those expectations, and we are addressing these issues head on.”
Green-Beckham has been involved in a police investigation after a pound of marijuana was found in a Jeep in which he was a passenger. Court documents showed the Missouri receiver had been cooperating with police and turned over cellphone records and a DNA sample in late January. The marijuana was later found to have not belonged to Green-Beckham. He was suspended for the team's game against Vanderbilt in 2012 after he was arrested for marijuana possession.
Missouri went 12-2 last season and played in the SEC title game for the first time since joining the conference. The Tigers went on to beat Oklahoma State 41-31 in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 3.https://twitter.com/jeff_rosen88/status/453281008217903104
