SEC commissioner Mike Slive: Without autonomy, league might "go to a Division IV"

If the five power conferences aren't granted legislative autonomy by the NCAA, the SEC could potentially push for a Division IV, SEC commissioner Mike Slive told reporters on Friday at the league's spring meetings in Destin, Fla.

In April, the NCAA board of directors endorsed a restructured governance model that included legislative autonomy for the five power conferences: the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC. The NCAA planned to seek feedback from member institutions and vote on a proposed restructuring in August.

The SEC announced $309.6 million of total revenue distributions to the 14 member schools from the 2013-14 fiscal year, which ends in August. On the heels of that announcement, Slive told reporters that autonomy is the right way to go for the profitable leagues.
