First-year Connecticut head coach Bob Diaco is trying to rebuild a team that went just 3-9 last season. Now, he'll have to do so without running back Lyle McCombs, who is no longer with the program. McCombs, the Huskies' leading rusher in 2013, rushed for 670 yards and five touchdowns as a junior. He also caught 20 passes for 75 yards and two scores.

Per a release from the university posted at the Hartford Courant:

"Attending school at the University of Connecticut is a special privilege as is being a member of the UConn football team," said head coach Bob Diaco. "With that privilege also come certain responsibilities and expectations. We wish Lyle only the best in his future endeavors as he moves on from UConn."

The Huskies' second leading rusher from last fall, Max DeLorenzo, is a rising junior who carried 99 times for 349 yards with five touchdowns. UConn averaged 20.6 points per game in 2013 and finished the year on a three-game winning streak under interim coach T.J. Weist.

McCombs finishes his career with 2,681 rushing yards, fourth in school history.
