Michigan's offense really struggled to get going in the third quarter and it allowed Illinois to get back into the game. When Michigan had a chance to put the game away in the fourth quarter, Jim Harbaugh jumped at the opportunity and sealed the victory.

Brown's Breakdown

"I love that Jim Harbaugh decided to try to win the game as opposed to trying not to lose it. He and his team had a chance to put Illinois away by picking up a first down on fourth down and he rolled the dice. He picked up the first down, ultimately scored a touchdown on the drive and delivered the knock out punch to the chin of the Illini.

"We need to see more of that out of Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis earlier in the game. Take chances, throw deep balls, give guys a chance to make plays and be aggressive. All the time. From opening kickoff until the clock says zero.

"I would've loved to see Harbaugh floor it before halftime and try to get points. In this particular game, Harbaugh wouldn't even have to be risky. Use tempo to go as fast as possible and run the ball. Michigan was able to rip off several long runs against the Illini and could've been down the field with some gusto. Instead, a couple of runs, no urgency, no confidence shown and the team trots into the locker room. Then, they come out flat in the third quarter and damn near let Illinois make a game out of it.

"That won't cut it against good teams with killers at quarterback and playmakers scattered around the field. You can get away with that against Illinois, you will not be able to next week in Happy Valley."
