Bronny James recruiting update: USC signee Isaiah Collier says 'I’m trying to recruit him'

James and Collier are both in Houston this week preparing to play in the McDonald's All-American Game

The McDonald's All-American Game, which will feature the top boys high school basketball players in the country, tips off on Tuesday night in Houston. Ahead of the event, participants addressed reporters via Zoom.

The most important note from Monday's press conference as far as USC fans are concerned regards the recruitment of shooting guard Bronny James, who will be suiting up in Thursday's game.

USC is one of the finalists to land LeBron James' eldest son and five-star point guard Isaiah Collier, who signed with USC in November and will also play in the McDonald's All-American Game, is actively trying to recruit James to join the Trojans.

“Stay home, that’s all I’ve got to say," Collier's told James at practices this week. "Stay home.”

When asked what he thought about James as a player, Collier responded: "He’s a great shooter. I feel like he’s one of the best all-around players in the country. He’s a great player. He knows how to play the game, he’s not going to overdo anything. I’m trying to recruit him.”

The other teams rumored to want James include Ohio State and Oregon.

USC's 2023 recruiting class currently includes Collier, Collier's Wheeler (Ga.) High School teammate Arrinten Page, and North Carolina guard Silas Demary Jr.

Last week, sophomore guard Reese Dixon-Waters entered the transfer portal after being named the Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year earlier this month. Losing Dixon-Waters is a big blow for USC, but if James signs with the Trojans, that could help fill the void.

In addition to Collier and Demary Jr., the other guards on USC's roster next season are expected to be returners Kobe Johnson, Tre White and Oziyah Sellers.

Sophomore guard Malik Thomas has also entered the transfer portal.
