LA PLANCHE DES BELLES FILLES, France (AP) A brief look at the 10th stage of the Tour de France on Monday:

Stage: A 161.5-kilometer (100-mile) trek from Mulhouse to La Planche des Belles Filles featuring four Category 1 ascents - concluding with a punishingly steep uphill finish - raced in dangerously wet conditions that took their toll on riders.

Winner: Italian rider Vincenzo Nibali attacked near the end for his second stage win of the race. Meanwhile, two-time champion Alberto Contador abandoned the race after crashing and injuring his right knee, becoming the second race favorite to pull out after defending champion Chris Froome withdrew on stage 5.

Yellow jersey: Nibali reclaimed the yellow jersey from Tony Gallopin of France, who had taken it from him the day before.

Quote of the day: ''It was just incredible. He fell right in front of me and he was rolling on the floor,'' - Gallopin describing Contador's crash.

Stat of the day: 20 percent. The gradient on the last section of the day's seventh and final climb up to La Planche des Belles Filles ski resort in the Vosges mountain range in eastern France.

Next stage: Tuesday is a much-needed rest day after a crash-marred stage where Geraint Thomas and Michele Scarponi also fell. Unlike Contador, they were able to continue. Wednesday's 11th stage is a slightly hilly 187.5-kilometer (116.3-mile) route in eastern France from Besancon to Oyonnax and features four moderate climbs toward the end.
