RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Two-time Giro d'Italia winner Ivan Basso has been cleared following cancer treatment and will return to road cycling next month in Japan.

Basso was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the Tour de France in July. He crashed during the fifth stage, and tests in the Tour's medical tent first raise concerns. More extensive tests revealed the tumor, and Basso promptly withdrew from the race.

The 37-year-old rider underwent surgery and additional treatments in Milan.

Basso was back on his bike last month. But it wasn't until Thursday that his Tinkoff-Saxo team announced that results from his final test showed no need for additional treatment.

In Japan, he will compete in the Saitama Criterium.
