Skaters Give a Taste of the Upcoming Nike SB Street League World Tour

Big names, veterans and newcomers battled it out to earn their spot as one of the Street League Skateboarding Pros in the first-ever SLS Monster Energy Pro Open qualification event last month, but the action is just beginning. The first stop of the 2014 SLS Nike SB World Tour kicks off on June 29 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Ill., with all of the competition airing live on FOX Sports 1.

The SLS Nike SB World Tour – a partnership between the company’s skateboard division and a foundation founded by pro skateboarder Rob Dyrdek in 2010 – transforms famous arenas into custom concrete skate plazas for skateboarding’s superstars to show off their skills. It’s all in for the athletes, as they will compete in an instant-scoring format for the largest prize in skate history: more than $1 million.

The competition was intense at the Pro Open, with Nyjah Huston edging Ishod Wair with a cab flip frontside boardslide fakie down the rail and a backside 270 kickflip lipslide down the rail for the highest score and a first place finish.

Sean Malto, Shane O’Neil and reigning champion Chris Cole will join Huston in Chicago, along with newcomers Matt Berger, Trevor Colden and Davis Torgerson, who won their spots at the Pro Open. All 25 SLS pros will be put to the test during the first stop of the tour, each looking to win their way to the 2014 Super Crown Championship in August at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
