I really don't want to write about the All-Star Game, but I opened my big fat mouth on Twitter last night, so now I feel like I have to address it here since I can use more than 140 characters. It all started because Twitter has been overrun lately by players/teams/fans begging for All-Star votes. So, I tweeted, "I wonder if any of the players up for this All Star vote-in nonsense are embarrassed by these campaigns." This led to several of my followers informing me that teams have joined forces to help get their players voted in. Specifically, the Blue Jays and Braves, Yankees and Nationals, Red Sox and Dodgers, Tigers and Giants (more on this later). Clearly, MLB is behind this -- and it's pathetic. Instead of letting fans make their own decisions and maybe letting, oh, I don't know, MERIT come into play, nonsense like this is going on.

What's even better is that nobody seems to know how this Twitter vote works. People have been incessantly tweeting the necessary hashtags all week, yet none of the tweets count as votes. The voting is only open on Twitter for a few hours today.

Now, personally, I don't watch the All-Star Game because I have no interest in meaninglesss exhibition games, so I don't care what teams/fans/players do to get in players (except when it takes over my Twitter feed). If you want to spend your time watching Travis Wood face Jason Castro in a game that doesn't count in the standings, bless you. But please don't tell me that the All-Star Game is important because home field advantage in the World Series is on the line when MLB is getting celebrities to influence the vote.

Speaking of influencing the vote, somehow my tweet about the vote-in nonsense turned into a bunch of people telling me that ESPN was trying to get Yasiel Puig voted into the game. I was skeptical of this because the game is on Fox, not ESPN, so I asked for some clarification. I ended up getting columns like this and tweets like these:

After analyzing my mentions, it became clear most of these complaints came from Braves fans, who REALLY want to see Freddie Freeman in the exhibition game. So basically, the last spot on the NL roster has turned into ESPN vs. RobGronkowski and Lil Jon. Way to go, MLB!

Brazilian soccer player Maurides (one name like Madonna), scored his first career goal yesterday. The 19-year-old was understandably excited, so he did a back flip, but injured his knee in the process.

Forget getting suspended for failing a drug test. Marshall Henderson's biggest transgression yesterday was getting snippy with Erin Andrews.
