Knitwear Democracy: Your Vote Will Help Pick the Best-Ever Bill Cosby Sweater

The Heat won. Wimble-is-done. Stanley’s come and gone. With the US Open and PGA Championship still weeks away, it's a bleak time for any fans looking for meaningful competition; for something with stakes.

Enter: woolen garments.

The web savants behind BillCosby.com have constructed a Cosby Sweater Tournament, perfectly timed to take advantage of the seasonal lull in the sports schedule (if not quite as well-timed for the mid-summer heat and humidity). An NCAA-style bracket to decide the ultimate example of the ‘80s threads Bill Cosby sported as Cliff Huxtable in the Cosby Show, fans can pick from 32 of the funnyman's signature textured, geometric sweaters, with a winner being crowned next week.

The tournament is currently in the Final Four, with just a day left to weigh in before the championship round. And then, cue the Cosby Sweater Tournament theme song: a mashup of “One Shining Moment”, the Cosby Show jazz theme, and Weezer’s “Undone – The Sweater Song”, a schizophrenic fantasy melody that exists only in our sports-starved minds.

As a bonus, one contest entrant will win an autographed copy of one of Cosby’s books. Though for my money, one of his authentic Coogi sweaters (Fun fact: later popularized by the Notorious B.I.G. in life and lyrics) would have been the best way to celebrate the fashion genius of one of TV's favorite dads. That, or JELL-O pudding for life.
