It appears Alabama's legal department is as unforgiving as their defense, as the school has sent a cease-and-desist letter to a local bakery for selling elephant cookies with a script 'A' written in frosting. The school and the Collegiate Licensing Company has also asked for an accounting of how many of the $1.75 treats Mary's Cakes and Pastries had sold, so that they could calculate the damages.

While Alabama has apologized since the story first became public, it's not a surprising action from a school that has attempted to copyright a hundreds-of-years-old houndstooth pattern. [AL.com via BigLead]
