Ronaldo > Voodoo

A Swedish advertising company that represents Pepsi tried to curse Portugal before their World Cup qualifying matchup by creating a Cristiano Ronaldo voodoo doll and putting it in horrible situations (covered in pins, tied to a train track, etc.). The plan backfired tremendously as Swedish fans started a Facebook petition to swear off Pepsi, forcing the soft drink company to issue a formal apology. Quote of the Day

"We as officials have always been taught, for a ball to be uncatchable, it has to be clearly out of the field of play or it has to be a kind of -- I probably shouldn't say this -- a Tim Tebow-type pass that lands 15 yards in front of you."

-Jim Daopolous, a former NFL referee, taking a shot at Tim Tebow while explaining the pass interference call at the end of Monday's Patriots-Panthers game.

Mark Gastineau turns 57 today. The legendary Jets defensive end, who looks absolutely terrifying in this 1984 Media Day portrait, was part of the New York Sack Exchange with Joe Klecko, Marty Lyons and Abdul Salaam. In this 1984 profile, SI's Bruce Newman looks at how Gastineau finally earned the respect of his teammates after a sack dance the previous season led to a 37-player brawl.
