This Charlie Strong Texas T-Shirt Is Horrible
And shame on the person who created it.
For a brief period this fan-made t-shirt titled "Black is the New Brown" was for sale on Etsy for $19.95 by someone who thinks they're clever. According to Gamedayr, the description for the item read as follows:
After 16 years as head coach of the Longhorns, Mack Brown is stepping down to make way for Charlie Strong as the new head coach. Celebrate Charlie Strong’s arrival in style.
The shirt of course is making reference to new Texas head coach Charlie Strong's race in relation to the school's previous coach, Mack Brown. To the item's discredit, it manages to achieve the awful trifecta of being offensive, unfunny and not making any sense.
Of course this one shirt is hardly an indication of the attitudes of the entire school, but the fact remains that Charlie Strong is Texas' first ever African-American head football coach, so misguided displays such as this one seem especially troubling.
