Fox Sports Opts to Cut Away from Richard Sherman Interview Quickly

The adrenaline was flowing, Richard Sherman was rolling, and Fox Sports's NFL producers had a decision: How long do we stay with this interview?

The answer was not long at all.

Per a Fox Sports spokesperson to SI.com early Monday morning, Fox opted to end its post-game interview with the Seahawks cornerback abruptly after Sherman declared in pure WWE tones: "I'm the best corner in the game. When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that's what you're going to get. Don't you ever talk about me! Don't you open your mouth about the best! Or I am going to shut for you real quick! LOB [Legion of Boom]."

How long to stay with a subject during a live interview is always a judgment call for sports producers, and Fox's lead NFL production team is terrific. In this case, I think they were too cautious. Viewers are inundated weekly with vanilla interviews and BS coach-speak. Sherman's postgame reaction, straight out of the WWE playbook, was dangerous, interesting television. They should have stuck with it. On Monday Sherman addressed the interview with this first-person piece for The MMQB.

"He lost his mind and it was awesome -- for once," Andrews told The Dan Patrick Show on Monday morning. "I do think they [Fox's producers] might have been worried about language."
