George Zimmerman vs. DMX Boxing Match Canceled, Faith in Humanity Restored
Rejoice! George Zimmerman's boxing match with DMX has been canceled by its promoter, Damon Feldman, after widespread outrage and disgust of the event, including over 100,000 signatures on Change.org and extensive social media pushback.
Feldman announced the decision Saturday afternoon on Twitter, claiming to want to do the right thing because he cares about people's feelings. He also mentioned, repeatedly, that he was giving up a huge payday to cancel the fight. His exact tweet:
"It was my decision to cancel the george zimmerman fight it was worth a lot of money to me but people's feelings meant more to me"
Feldman has since deleted the tweet (though it was confirmed by media outlets), but thankfully, it doesn't look like he's backing out of his plans to cancel the bout. Instead, he said he's going to announce the cancellation officially in a press conference on Tuesday. Feldman, ever classy, also reminded us yet again that his cancellation of the fight is oh so noble:
This is great news, because as much as this writer wants to see Zimmerman get, in DMX's words, "the living f*** beat out" of him, the fight would have generated income for Zimmerman.
