The 2014 Nascar season opened with a blast on Saturday night. Or was it more of a burst?
With the field readying itself for the final 20-lap segment of the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona, smoke could be seen coming from the collection of cars on track. Did somebody spin their tires? Did something under the hood blow? Was there a crash as drivers vied for positions on the restart?
None of the above: The smoke was actually coming from the pace car.
So what happened to the Chevy SS? Apparently, a battery pack used to power external lights caught fire.
Thankfully nobody was hurt, though it was understandably quite a scare for pace car driver Brett Bodine.
