Scary Night in the NHL

In one of the scariest scenes in NHL history, Stars forward Rich Peverly collapsed on the team's bench during the first period of last night's game against Columbus. Peverly suffered a "cardiac incident" but, in true hockey fashion, felt better soon after and wanted to return to the game. The game, however, was postponed, and the medical staffs of Columbus and Dallas earned first star honors for their hard work. In other NHL news, Ottawa defenseman Cody Ceci was gushing blood after being nailed in the head by a Shea Weber slap shot, and the Canucks gave up seven third-period goals in a crushing defeat to the Islanders.

This is Irony

Not the finest moment for Fox News.

When Crowdsourcing Goes Wrong

The Vikings tried to boost fan interest in the team by tweeting out a photo of former Browns linebacker D’Qwell Jackson and asking their fans what they thought about signing him. One problem -- the Colts had already signed Jackson to a four-year deal.

Sweetening the Pot

As free agent pitcher Ervin Santana decides on a team, a Toronto pizza chain got in on the action by offering Santana 100 free pizzas for himself and another 100 for local kids if he signs with the Blue Jays. It's also worth pointing out that the pizza chain is called Boston Pizza and it has over 350 locations in Canada. And while we're on the subject of pizza, Sbarro filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time in three years on Monday.

Tweet of the Day

If Bengals safety George Iloka doesn't win the 2014 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award for this selfless act, there is something wrong with the world.

Gross

Hawks guard Jeff Teague lost hearing in one of his ears due to wax buildup. “He got it out and now I can hear everything,” Teague said afterwards. “It’s like a miracle.”

Bill Cosby joined Instagram yesterday while attending the South by Southwest Festival. Too bad Instagram wasn't around in 1976, when the comic received a tennis lesson from Playboy bunnies Jan (left) and Martha during a promotional event on 59th Street in NYC. For more vintage sports photos, follow the SI Vault on Twitter. While you’re at it, follow my personal Twitter account and Extra Mustard as well.
