Joey Chestnut proposes to girlfriend, brings home eighth Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest title

Joey Chestnut may not have set a new Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest record, but he won't soon forget July 4, 2014. The competitive eating legend proposed to his girlfriend on a stage (she said yes), a half hour before being crowned champion for eating 61 hot dogs, eight short of his all-time best.

Friday marked Chestnut's eight title. He beat out Matt Stonie by five hot dogs. In an upset, three-time champion Sonya Thomas was outdone in the women's division by Miki Sudo, who devoured 34 hot dogs and buns.
