Former Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder owes much of his success to ex-coach Bobby Bowden. Ponder has decided to pay tribute his former coach by naming his daughter after him.

Ponder was recruited to Florida State under Bowden, who is the all-time winningest coach in major college football history. Though Ponder finished his career under Jimbo Fisher, the quarterback played his first three seasons under Bowden, who helped Ponder develop into an NFL quarterback prospect. Ponder was selected with the No. 11 pick in the 2011 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings, for whom he still plays.

Apparently Ponder feels he owes a lot of his success to his former coach, because he and his wife Samantha -- an ESPN college football reporter -- decided to name their first child Bowden.

No word on whether the couple plans on naming their second child Jimbo.
