Minor league scouting report for Greg Maddux: 'Not strong enough to be a starter'

1985 scouting report of then Chicago Cubs prospect Greg Maddux said the Hall of Famer was "not strong enough to be a starter."

A scouting report from 1985 of recently inducted Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux says the pitcher is "not strong enough to be a starter."

The report comes from former MLB player and current minor league manager Duffy Dyer, who also pointed out that Maddux was "small" and "did not pitch good last 1/3rd of season" for the Cubs class-A affiliate Peoria Chiefs.

In Dyer's defense he does point out Maddux's plus control and fastball and earmarks him as a major league talent, a designation he does not give fellow Cubs prospect Rafael Palmeiro.
