Scottish soccer team's jerseys will be sponsored by popular crime author

One Scottish soccer team's jersey are about to get a whole lot spookier.

Raith Rovers, a soccer team in Scotland's second division, will have its jerseys this season sponsored by popular Scottish crime novelist Val McDermid. The front of the club's home shirts will bear the name of her website, ValMcDermid.com.

McDermid, a life-long Rovers supporter, has published books with creepy titles such as "Fever of the Bone" and "Killing the Shadows."

McDermid is not only a best-selling author, but apparently a savvy marketer as well. The timing of the sponsorship is impeccable. This season, three of Scotland's most prominent clubs (Rangers, Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian) are playing in the second division, so Raith games will be shown all around the world.

She got a real bargain, too. McDermid told The New York Times that she paid "in the low five figures" for the sponsorship.
