The Jets held a team film session on Saturday night in San Diego to prepare for its game vs. the Chargers the following day, and the starting quarterback was no where to be found.
Geno Smith, the second-year pro, said he was at the movies that night and chalked up his mistake to a miscalculation of the time difference. He said he "counted down instead of up" when it came to figuring out the difference in time between New York and California.
Smith said during a conference call with the media this week that he felt bad for getting confused:
"I felt really bad about it. I ended up apologizing. I really let a lot of people down. It’s not in my character to not be on time for a meeting...I was on East Coast time, but was thinking on I was on West Coast time, but I had nothing to do with the time zones, I got them mixed up."
The Jets got blanketed 31-0 and dropped to 1-4 on the season, so you can credit some of that loss to Smith taking in the sights.
No word yet on what he was seeing in theaters.
