An English soccer player was fined by his club after he missed their game on Saturday. Why was he absent? He supposedly went to Spain to watch Real Madrid play Barcelona in El Clasico.

According to the Herts Advertiser, St. Albans City striker John Frendo bailed on his team's FA Cup qualifier against Concord Rangers to go to Madrid for the much-hyped Clasico. Without Frendo, the league's leading scorer last year, they lost 1-0.

If Frendo's club had won, they would have earned £12,000 and qualified for the first round of the FA Cup, where there's even more money on the line.

"I regret missing the match on Saturday, the extent of the reaction surprised me," Frendo said in a statement.

How regretful can Frendo be, though? He skipped a match between two teams in England's sixth division to watch two of the best clubs in the world.
