Taylor Swift explains why she is a Knicks fan

Taylor Swift is a Knicks fan, which might seem strange considering that she only moved to New York fairly recently. But she can't be classified as a bandwagon fan, because the Knicks are 2-7.

Taylor Swift is a Knicks fan, which might seem strange considering that she only moved to New York fairly recently. But she can't be classified as a bandwagon fan, because the Knicks are 2-7.

So why does the 24-year-old pop star like the Knicks?

"Because Amar'e is so cool," she told TIME in an interview

Obviously. Swift is referring to Amar'e Stoudemire, who is currently averaging a career-low 10.9 points per game. TIME's Jack Dickey asked Swift why she likes the Knicks despite their poor play:

I love them, though. Why does that matter? So you run into a bunch of different, interesting types of people at the Met Ball. I’ve gone the last four years. And the most normal people at that event, every single time, are Amar’e Stoudemire and his wife Alexis. I talk with them and hang with them every time I’m there. So I’ve always had this sort of love of the Knicks, just because Amar’e is so cool.

Swift also cited performing at Madison Square Garden's Kids Talent Competition as a teenager, saying she fell in love with the arena and the team after singing there as a kid.

The pop star was at Wednesday's Knicks home loss to the Orlando Magic, and it's only fair to assume that Amar'e consoled the team after the defeat with a song Swift taught him
