Jaguars DB got arrested for trying to use bubble gum as money

dwayne gratz arrested bubble gum money

With the Jaguars on a bye week, Jacksonville cornerback Dwayne Gratz decided to go to Miami to have some fun. He ended up having a bit too much fun and was arrested just before 6 a.m. Sunday for disorderly intoxication.

Deadspin has the police report, which is a real doozy.

Mr. Gratz was in the store trying to buy items from the store, but did not have the money to pay for the items. The defendant [Gratz] offered to pay with bubble gum. The complainant told the defendant no, that he must pay with money. The defendant got angry and began to argue with the complainant.

At this point, the employee asked Gratz to leave. Gratz refused, so the employee called the cops. When the cops showed up, they told Gratz "several times" that he had to leave. He still refused and told the cops, "No, I'm not leaving." The cops gave him one last chance but he still refused, at which point he was placed under arrest.

Gratz missed practice on Monday. Head coach Gus Bradley said after practice that he expected to meet with Gratz some time Monday afternoon. Bradley said the situation "will be handled internally." It's unclear if Gratz will be suspended or fined, but if he is fined he had better pay in legal tender.
