Wikipedia says Illinois coach Tim Beckman's nickname is 'Slingblade'

One of the easiest and most popular ways to take a jab at a famous person is to vandalize his Wikipedia page. Usually the alterations are quickly discovered and erased. This is not the case with Illinois football coach Tim Beckman.

Some intrepid internet user changed Beckman's entry to say that he is "also known by his nickname 'Slingblade,'" a reference to the 1996 film Sling Blade, starring Billy Bob Thornton, about a mentally handicapped murderer.

According to a post on a message board for Minnesota fans, Beckman's page has been vandalized since Oct. 7

Wikipedia also tracks changes made to an article, so we can see previous iterations of vandalism.

Disgruntled Illinois fans have plenty of reason to be frustrated with Beckman. Since taking over the program in 2012, he has a 10-24 record overall and is 2-20 in the Big Ten Conference.

Soon enough, Beckman might be more worried about keeping "head football coach at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign" on his résumé than taking a silly nickname off of it.
