Minor league baseball team to wear Jedi jerseys for Star Wars night

Minor league baseball has long been known for its off-the-wall marketing ideas, but the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons are taking the themed jersey idea to a new level in 2015.

After sell-outs the last two season, the team announced on Thursday that this year's annual Star Wars Night will be held July 18.

The team will also feature special jerseys to mark the occasion.

That’s right, Jedi robe jerseys.

In addition to hopefully raising awareness about the evils of the Dark Side, the event will have a terrestrial benefit, as well. The jerseys will be auctioned after the game, with the proceeds benefiting the Compass House, an organization that provides shelter and services to runaway and homeless youths in the Buffalo area.

The team will also sell New Era caps depicting a special logo for the event: the team's traditional bison in a batting stance but swinging a light saber instead of a bat and the Death Star in the background.

It is the eighth year for the Star Wars Night promotion in Buffalo, or as the team website proclaims it, “Episode VIII.”
