Take a look: Michael Jordan's 1991 "Sportsman of the Year" hologram cover
Wednesday March 4th, 2015

Michael Jordan was recently named to Forbes magazine's list of billionaires, adding another line to the legend's list of amazing accomplishments.

VAULT: Michael Jordan: The Everywhere Man

In honor of the Charlotte Hornets owner's new placement on the vaunted list, Sports Illustrated has republished Jack McCallum's essay "Alone On The Mountaintop" which accompanied Jordan's selection as the 1991 Sportsman of the Year.

But just the text does not tell the whole story of that issue, as it also featured one of SI's most memorable covers, with Jordan appearing as a hologram decal on the front, which can be seen in the video above.

Jordan's eyes follow the viewer no matter the angle, with hologram artist Sharon McCormack requiring Jordan to smile in slow motion while he was being rotated in front of the camera.

“Michael had a very hard job,” says McCormack. “He had to smile and exude charisma in slow motion while keeping his body perfectly still. He couldn’t even blink. He was very graceful and smooth”
