Here's a new, and possibly risky, tactic to avoid getting hit by a pitch: catch it.

That's what Jojo Odachowski, a sophomore shortstop at Mount Pisgah Christian School in Johns Creek, Ga., did during a game against St. Francis (Alpharetta, Ga.) on Wednesday. Odachowski got to take first base after the home-plate umpire accurately ruled the play a hit-by-pitch, although St. Francis ultimately won the game 2–1.

Odachowski told MaxPreps.com that he practices the pitch-catch during warm-ups, so apparently there was some element of preparation involved here.

"I was going to continue to hit [before the ump ruled a hit by pitch]," Odachowski said to MaxPreps.com. "I absolutely hate getting walked."
