It happens to the best of us.

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal was probably distracted as the team continues its preseason exhibition tour of the U.S., and that's understandable. And there are a lot of players on his roster. But the Red Devils' Dutch boss, while talking about Wayne Rooney at a press conference, made a point of discussing the team's on-field leadership and accidentally called his third captain, Chris Smalling, by the name... Mike.

"That’s my philosophy, the players have to accept the captain—the first captain is Wayne Rooney, the second captain is Michael Carrick and last year the third captain was Mr. Mike Smalling, sorry, I mean Chris Smalling."

To be completely fair, he'd said the name Michael literally two seconds early. But the slip-up garnered some chuckles, especially given that Smalling was sitting right next to him. They all laughed it off together.

Maybe we all just wanna be like Mike.
