New York Jets place emergency call, Fireman Ed rushes to the rescue

The leader of the J-E-T-S chant will return to the stands for Week 1.

Fireman-Ed-Is-Back. Fireman! Ed! Is! Back!

New York Jets superfan Ed Anzalone, known as “Fireman Ed” will return to the stands at MetLife Stadium for Week 1 of the 2015 season, according to Kristian Dyer of Metro US.

The Jets reached out to Azalone over the offseason about a possible return.

“I don't know how I'll be,” Anzalone told Metro US. “It’ll be bittersweet; I didn’t want to leave in the first place. Been doing it for 28 years, met a lot of great people and I’ve been the guardian of it in many ways.”

Fireman Ed hasn’t led the “J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!” chant since the 2012 season, when the Jets went 6–10. He left the stands in the middle of the year after the team became a national laughingstock.

He wore Bruce Harper’s No. 42 for a while before switching to Mark Sanchez’s No. 6.

Perhaps he’ll don Sanchez’s jersey once again, as a reminder that things could always be worse.
