Newly 21-year-old Carlos Correa tries beer for the first time: ‘It tastes bad’

Astros shortstop Carlos Correa hadn’t had a beer before Houston’s postgame celebration on Monday. He didn’t like it.

Astros rookie Carlos Correa is the youngest position player in the majors. He’s just barely 21, so he’s not much of an alcohol connoisseur.

Not only is Correa not a craft beer expert, Sports Illustrated’s Ben Reiter has a profile of Correa in this week’s issue where Correa confesses he’s never had a beer

“Never drank a beer before,” he says. “I’ve had wine and champagne, but never a beer. I don’t think that will happen. I don’t know why people look forward to that.”

But after Houston beat the Yankees in Monday night’s Wild Card game, the Astros broke out the beers in the clubhouse and Correa was finally able to take a taste. What was the verdict?

So if the Astros keep advancing in the playoffs, maybe they don’t have to stock so much beer for the celebrations.
