When asked about new Knicks signee-to-be Jimmer Fredette on Saturday night, Carmelo Anthony started up a full-on name controversy.

“Who are we getting?” he asked the New York Post, which informed him of Fredette’s reported agreement.

“To be honest with you, I haven’t seen Jimmy play in a long time,” he said. “I’ve been hearing about what’s he’s doing down there in the D-League but I haven’t seen him play in action for a long time.”

Jimmy? There were questions that needed to be answered.

There to answer those questions on Sunday was Fredette. The New York Times’ Scott Cacciola probed him on his nickname situation, and unearthed some astonishing details.

For years, the public knew him only as ‘Jimmer.’ There was no other acceptable name. Now there are four acceptable names to call James Taft Fredette?

Time for some power rankings.

1. Jimmer
2. Jimster
3. Jim
4. Jimmy
5. James

Jimmer has to be first on the list. It’s highly doubtful someone would have made a song called “Teach Me How To Jimster.”

While there’s a clear No. 1 option, there is now a No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5.
