Rockets use costumed women as free-throw distractions

The Houston Rockets pulled out all the stops while trying to distract free throw shooters.

The Houston Rockets are in a tough fight to remain in the Western Conference playoff race.

Houston holds a slim 1.5 game lead over the Utah Jazz for eighth place in the West, and with jobs and legacies on the line, the Rockets can’t afford to miss the playoffs entirely in what’s already been a mess of a season.

That probably explains why the team is going all out on its free-throw distractions.

The Rockets used women in some, uh, interesting Cat-in-the-Hat garb to distract free throw shooters during their game against the Pelicans on Wednesday. New Orleans actually made all its free throws from the following videos, but I personally had a tough time finishing this blog:

So who were these people? An amateur investigation from Deadspin’s Kevin Draper revealed they were likely in the employ of the Rockets’ mascot, who posted a photo with the fans on Facebook before the game.

All’s fair in love, war and free throws.
