Wade Boggs wore his Yankees ring to a ceremony for the ’86 Red Sox

Wade Boggs wasn’t trying to make Red Sox fans mad, but he did anyway.

Wade Boggs is at the center of a pretty dumb controversy.

The Red Sox had a ceremony before Wednesday night’s game honoring their 1986 American League championship team and Boggs was there, sporting the World Series ring he won in 1996 with the Yankees.

People are mad.

Here’s the thing, though: Boggs wears the ring every single day.

“I’m not one of those guys to put it in a drawer and say that this part of my history is never going to be looked at,” Boggs told the Yankees’ TV network. “I like sharing it with people. People ask me about it all the time and it has a story. It’s part of my legacy and it will always be there.”

The Red Sox are retiring Boggs’s number on Thursday night, so Boston fans will have another chance to get angry at him.
