Alex Rodriguez is playing with the Double-A Trenton Thunder while recovering from a hamstring injury and while down in the wacky world of the minor leagues the Yankees star made a new friend.

The Thunder took on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Wednesday and the designated hitter looked sharp putting a ball out of the park and playing around with the team’s pair of “bat dogs.”

The 22-year veteran even posted a photo on Twitter of his run-in with the dogs on his last trip to Trenton in 2013.

You can watch Rodriguez’s second inning home run, and the accompanying bat flip in the team’s game recap at the 1:54 mark.

A-Rod has not played in an MLB game since May 3 hitting five home runs in his 72 at-bats so far this season.
