Swimming is one of the most grueling activities a human can undertake as evidenced by the hundreds of stories about the abundance of food stars like Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte eat every day just to keep their bodies going.

For one Norwegian swimmer the challenge of one of sport’s toughest events, the individual medley, was not enough so he decided to swim the whole thing backwards. Not in the opposite order, literally backwards, using the reverse movement of each stroke.

Eirik Ravnan posted the full video to his Facebook page, and in it says he began the odd warmup as “agility training.” It probably serves the dual purpose of psyching out his competitors.
