Alex Bregman is the top prospect in the Astros’ minor league system and he made his first appearance in the major leagues on Monday night. Understandably, fans were excited to see the young infielder in Houston, especially after his three-hit showing in the 2016 Futures Game.

While a new prospect is always intriguing for fans, the Minute Maid Park crowd went particularly wild as he walked into the batter’s box, making an already amazing moment even more powerful for his father, who was in the stands with a large group of family and friends, and was spotted on camera as his son stepped to the plate.

Bregman’s debut did not go so well on the field though as the third baseman left six runners on base while striking out twice as the Astros fell to the Yankees 2–1.

Before his late July call-up, the 22-year-old Bregman was hitting .333 for the Fresno Grizzlies in Triple A after being drafted second overall in the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft.
