For Michael Phelps, 28 medals should be enough
Monday August 15th, 2016

Before Michael Phelps was a 23-time gold medal winner and the most decorated Olympian of all time, he was just another college student at the University of Michigan. The year was 2005 and SI on Campus (a much-beloved, now-departed Sports Illustrated magazine dedicated to college life) visited Ann Arbor for a cover feature on Phelps. Photographer Heinz Kluetmeier wanted something unique for this shoot and decided to set up Phelps' dorm room at the bottom of a swimming pool, inlcluding a desk, his fancy (in 2005) MacBook and even an easy chair.

Phelps' time at Michigan was brief but this photo shoot will live forever to remind us of when Phelps briefly wore the maize and blue. As for the easy chair, it may still be at the bottom of the pool. An inside source tell us that it was too difficult to remove and left behind after the shoot. Here's hoping Michigan has forgiven Phelps and the SI photo staff. Below is the final cover for the issue.
