Jags' Rashad Jennings tops waiver wire targets after Week 7

The Jaguars' offense is one of the worst in the league. Blaine Gabbert is a young quarterback who struggles almost every week. The star running back is hurt, and the backup averaged 2.1 yards per carry on Sunday.

Whatever. Go pick up Rashad Jennings.

It's about halfway through the fantasy season. Unless you're 0-7 or 1-6, you're probably still alive for the playoffs. You might need a starter to firm up your team for a bye week. You might need a third or fourth running back. You might just need depth at the running back position, something you can never have enough of in fantasy football. Unless you are completely stacked at running back, you could probably use Rashad Jennings.

Maurice Jones-Drew went down with a foot injury on Sunday after just two carries for six yards. The team fears it's a Lisfranc injury, which would put MJD out for the season. Jennings rushed for just 44 yards in relief of Jones-Drew on Sunday, but what's important is he got 21 carries and caught seven passes for 58 yards. He ended up producing a pretty decent fantasy total, especially in points-per-reception leagues.

He'll carry the load for the Jaguars with MJD out. The next two weeks -- Packers and Lions -- aren't great matchups, but Jennings should get enough looks to produce fantasy-wise.

• Josh Freeman, Buccaneers (53 percent owned in Yahoo! leagues): The Saints' secondary can cure any passer's woes, and Freeman went 24-for-42 for 420 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday. He has another decent matchup this week: The Vikings' run defense may usually be good, but its pass defense is allowing the 10th most fantasy points to quarterbacks. If you need a fill-in, Freeman could be good for a couple of touchdowns.

• Sam Bradford, Rams (21 percent): This is basically a one-week play for bye fill-in purposes as the Rams play the Patriots, a team allowing a ton of points to opposing fantasy quarterbacks. St. Louis usually can't score, but Bradford will be good for a ton of yards this week.

• Brandon Weeden, Browns (16 percent): Hey, why not? The rookie has put up 15-plus fantasy points in three straight games, including a career-best 25-for-41, 264-yard, two-touchdown performance in Sunday's loss to the Colts. Week 8's opponent, the Chargers, allows a lot of fantasy points to quarterbacks, and no pass defenses in the AFC North are that great. Weeden might keep putting up OK fantasy stats.

• LaRod Stephens-Howling, Cardinals (18 percent): The fourth-year man had his best game as a pro Sunday, carrying 20 times for 104 yards and a touchdown against the usually solid Minnesota run defense after starter William Powell -- four carries for 13 yards -- was benched for fumbling. Despite Powell's impressive stats this week, the running back situation is unclear enough in Arizona that you can hold off on picking up Stephens-Howling for a week with the Cardinals traveling to San Francisco for a Monday night game.

• Andre Brown, Giants (42 percent): He took a touchdown from Ahmad Bradshaw in his return Sunday, but should really only be added as a handcuff or in incredibly deep leagues.

• Jeremy Kerley, Jets (44 percent): After 14 targets in his first four games, Kerley has 27 looks in his last three. He caught seven passes for 120 yards on Sunday on 11 targets, a solid fantasy day after just three catches the week before. He hasn't scored since Week 3, but he's a better, more consistent option than Stephen Hill (18 percent) among Jets receivers. The Jets will probably throw against Miami this week, and while you probably won't get a score Kerley is almost assured of a lot of looks.

• Titus Young, Lions (26 percent): Nate Burleson broke his leg Monday night and is out for the year. The No. 2 receiver role now falls to Young, so far a fantasy disappointment this season. He did catch six passes for 81 yards on eight targets, high totals in all of those categories this year. He should improve a bit coming forward, though rookie Ryan Broyles (1 percent) caught Detroit's lone touchdown.

• Brandon Gibson, Rams (35 percent): He's the most-targeted receiver on the Rams since Danny Amendola's injury; like Bradford, he could have a big day against the Patriots secondary.

• Brandon Myers, Raiders (13 percent): He still hasn't scored, but he saw a team-high 10 targets on Sunday against Jacksonville, catching seven passes for 44 yards. That adds up in a points per reception league, and -- while the Chiefs haven't allowed a ton of points to opposing tight ends this year -- they don't defend the position that well. Myers is a sneaky play this week if you need a guy.

• Joel Dreessen, Broncos (12 percent): The Saints haven't allowed that many points to tight ends this season -- mainly because they've only allowed one touchdown, on Sunday to Dallas Clark -- but Peyton Manning should get Dreessen some looks at least. Dreessen was targeted seven times the week before the bye and caught touchdown passes in the three games before that.

• Shaun Suisham, Steelers (14 percent): He's a top-10 kicker right now and faces the defensively-challenged Washington Redskins at home this week. Washington's allowing the seventh-most points to kickers in fantasy.

• Nick Folk, Jets (4 percent): Hey, if the Jets are just going to play for field goals, maybe Nick Folk has more value than everyone thought! A matchup against the Dolphins this week before the bye is not great, but the Jets' struggles to get it into the end zone should continue to lead to opportunities.

Atlanta Falcons (62 percent): It's only an outside shot they're available, but Atlanta is a top-10 defense and goes against the turnover-happy Eagles this week. Good play for this week -- and since they've already had their bye, for the rest of the year.

New York Jets (44 percent): If you need one-week filler, the Jets are likely available and face the Dolphins at home. Don't expect too many sacks, but New York should at least be able to keep the score down.
