Fantasy baseball Weekend Primer: Stream Cashner, McAllister

Andrew Cashner gave up just one earned run in seven innings in his last start against the Pirates.

Notable nuggets on the upcoming weekend action that could swing your fantasy baseball matchup:

• Andrew Cashner has given the fantasy community four useful outings in his last six starts, and even in one when he struggled, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks in six innings against the Diamondbacks, he still picked up a win. When I need to stream a pitcher to stream, I look for guys who have been throwing the ball well recently and have a good matchup. Cashner fits both requirements, as he'll face the Cubs take at home on Sunday. The Cubs have struggled offensively since dealing Alfonso Soriano, scoring just 3.3 runs per game in August. Cashner deserves your trust this weekend.

• Zach McAllister has thrown the ball well since rejoining Cleveland's rotation at the end of July. He got roughed up for five runs on six hits and four walks in 2.1 innings against the Tigers, but outside of that has allowed nine runs in 29.1 innings, striking out 26 batters. He draws the Twins at home on Sunday, and is widely available. I prefer Cashner, but McAllister is worth your while, as well.

• There aren't a ton of options for those of you in need of a streamable pitcher on Saturday. That's what happens when the likes of Yu Darvish, Matt Harvey, Max Scherzer, David Price, Jose Fernandez, Julio Teheran, Shelby Miller and Francisco Liriano all start on the same day. If you really need one, though, Wade Davis is probably your best bet. The Royals host the Nationals this week, who were largely quieted by the Cubs this week, outside of a nine-run output Wednesday. Davis' 5.43 ERA is ugly, but he has a 4.22 FIP and has fanned nearly eight batters per nine innings. He's a bit risky, but you probably don't really care about that if you're looking to stream a pitcher.
