NDSU's Bohl honored as national coach of the year

FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota State University football coach Craig Bohl has been honored as the national coach of the year in the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision.

Bohl was awarded the Eddie Robinson Award on Monday night during a ceremony in Philadelphia.

"This is great recognition for our program. Anyone who understands college football knows the head coach really doesn't have a lot to do with it,'' Bohl said in a statement. "It's the assistant coaches, the support staff and the players. I will accept that recognition on behalf of our program. It's not an individual honor. This is a collective effort.''

Bohl has led the Bison (13-1) to a repeat appearance in the FCS title game. The Bison on Jan. 5 in Frisco, Texas, take on Sam Houston State (11-3) - the team they beat for the championship last year.

Bohl is in his 10th season at NDSU. He has an 88-32 record and is four wins away from breaking Rocky Hager's record for career wins at the Fargo school.

The Eddie Robinson Award is named for the legendary coach who won 408 games in 56 years at Grambling State.
