Tiger Woods withdrew from the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday in Ohio because of back pain, according to the official PGA Tour Media Twitter account.
Woods began the day with a birdie on the opening hole and appeared to injure himself on the second shot out of the rough on the par-5 second hole. He appeared in pain after a tee shot on the par-4 ninth and announced he is withdrawing.
At the time, he was 3-over-par over the eight holes. For the tournament, he was 4-over.
It's unclear how this injury will affect his status for the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup.
